Program Overview
The Sports Medicine Institute Athletic Training Residency is a 12-month rehabilitation-based clinical and didactic program designed to increase the professional development of athletic trainers.
We accomplish our mission through a planned post-professional clinical and didactic education program designed to advance a resident’s expertise in the rehabilitation and treatment of sports-related injuries. The curriculum for the athletic training residency is based on rehabilitation of the spine, extremities and other sports-related injuries/illnesses.
Athletic trainers from the Sports Medicine Institute and therapists from areas of Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System Rehabilitation serve as faculty mentors to guide residents in developing advanced clinical expertise and current knowledge in the specialty area. In addition, residents must complete assigned readings, projects and written and practical examinations.
