Community Health

AccessHealth Spartanburg opens its doors for thousands of people in need of quality and timely health care. Started in 2010, the organization is dedicated to improving access to health care for the uninsured of Spartanburg, Cherokee and Union counties.

AccessHealth Spartanburg connects the uninsured with a network of doctors and other medical providers who are donating their time in order to improve health outcomes. It also encourages healthier lifestyles by addressing social barriers to health.

Individual organizations across South Carolina have been fighting to improve health care for decades. Alliance for a Healthier South Carolina was formed to coordinate those efforts to improve outcomes and duplicate successes.  

This coalition of more than 50 executive leaders from diverse organizations work to make sure the residents of the Palmetto State live healthier lives, regardless of economic, racial and geographic disparities.  

One Spartanburg is a comprehensive effort to raise levels of prosperity in Spartanburg County.

Established in 2009, the Road to Better Health Coalition engages more than 40 cross-sector partners to identify health priorities for Spartanburg County and initiate strategies to improve health outcomes. Measurable goals are established for each priority area, and collectively, these goals serve as Spartanburg's community health improvement plan. The current priority areas are access to care, adult oral health, behavioral health, birth outcomes, health equity, obesity prevention and tobacco cessation. 

Spartanburg's Community Indicators Project tracks data for a variety of social, economic, educational and health indicators. SCIP's report, The Status of Public Health in Spartanburg County, includes indicators that reflect the state of public health in our county. This report serves as Spartanburg's community health needs assessment. Multi-sector partners, including Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System and the health department, provide data to SCIP to ensure the report is comprehensive. 

Spartanburg is one of five communities in the nation chosen to participate in the Way to Wellville challenge. An initiative whose focus is to develop new and innovative solutions to amplify and accelerate community health in the next ten years.
