About
For children with special healthcare needs, we provide a high level of care and treatment in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, or PICU, at Spartanburg Medical Center. In this specialized facility, our children’s specialists and sub-specialists provide care for children up to age seventeen with advanced equipment.
Some conditions that may cause your child to be unstable and critical include the following:
- Severe asthma
- Severe complications of diabetes mellitus
- Infections, such as severe pneumonia
- Serious injuries from accidents
- Accidental or intentional overdoses
In addition to providing all the resources of a medical center, our staff also focuses on making the child and family comfortable. The unit includes a child-friendly atmosphere and an “under the sea” theme. The rooms are bright, colorful and spacious, and each includes a DVD player. Parents can enjoy a special break room, kitchen and shower so they can spend more time with their child and less time away from the hospital.
