Cardiothoracic Surgery
About
Cardiothoracic surgeons treat conditions of the heart, lungs, great blood vessels, chest and esophagus. Our surgeons perform a variety of procedures ranging from advanced bronchoscopy/endoscopy to open heart surgery.
We specialize in the surgical treatment of heart disease, including coronary artery disease, structural heart disease, heart arrhythmias, heart failure and disorders of the aorta. We also surgically manage benign and malignant diseases of the lungs, esophagus and chest wall.
Minimally invasive approaches are available and considered for both cardiac and thoracic surgeries. These include minimally invasive direct coronary artery bypass surgery (MIDCAB), transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), as well as video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) and robotic-assisted surgery for general thoracic disorders.
Conditions treated
- Coronary artery disease (blockage of the heart arteries)
- Valvular insufficiency (leaking or regurgitating valves)
- Valvular stenosis (blocked or narrowed valves)
- Congestive heart failure (ineffective heart muscle)
- Cardiopulmonary failure (ineffective heart and lungs)
- Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (thickened heart muscle)
- Myocardial infarction (heart attack)
- Left ventricular aneurysm (stretched heart muscle)
- Thoracic aortic aneurysm (stretched aorta in the chest)
- Thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm (stretched aorta in the chest extending into the abdomen)
- Aortic dissection (a separation of the walls of the aorta)
- Aorta transaction (a rupture or tear through all layers of the aorta from injury)
- Atrial fibrillation
- Lung cancer
- Mediastinal tumors
- Tracheobronchial cancer
- Tracheal stenosis
- Esophageal cancer
- Benign conditions of the esophagus such as narrowing or rupture
