Patient Preparation |
Verify that patient has not had vitamins containing folic acid during the previous three to five days; if so, consult physician. Patient should be cautioned to stop biotin consumption at least 72 hours prior to collection of a sample. |
Specimen Processing Instructions |
Transfer 4 mL from one whole blood tube into a plastic transport tube and freeze. Second whole blood tube should be at room temperature. |
Transport Requirements |
Freeze one whole blood transport tube; store second whole blood specimen at room temperature. |

No frozen whole blood; transport tubes with whole blood for the hematocrit portion |
