Additional Information

Heterophilic antibodies in human serum can react with reagent immunoglobulins, interfering with in vitro immunoassays.  Patients routinely exposed to animals or to animal serum products can be prone to this interference and anomalous values may be observed.  Additional information may be required for diagnosis.

Specimen Processing Instructions

Serum:  Allow to clot.  Centrifuge at 3380 rpm’s (±100) for a minimum of 10 minutes

Plasma:  Centrifuge at 3380 rpm’s (±100) for a minimum of 10 minutes

Centrifuge within 2 hours of collection.

Do Not freeze serum or plasma.

Specimen Stability

Room temperature:  4 hours   Refrigerated: 48 hours; It is also extremely important to ensure that patient samples have been handled and stored correctly.  Incorrect handling of samples will result in a lost of intact PTH.  

Rejection Criteria

If not centrifuged within 2 hours of collection.
