Sodium Citrate Whole Blood and EDTA Whole Blood

4.5 ml Sodium Citrate 3.2% Blue stopper tube or if the 1.8 ml size sodium Citrate tube is drawn, 2 tubes are needed and one 3.0 ml EDTA Lavender stopper tube (Whole Blood).

DO NOT SEND SAMPLES THRU THE TUBE SYSTEM AFTER COLLECTION

Additional Information

HCT AND Platelet must be within acceptable testing range to perform assay.

ACCEPTABLE TESTING RANGE: HCT = >35% and Platelet Count = >150,000/ uL

Store Whole Blood at room temperature.  Do Not Centrifuge.

  • Clotted Sample 
  • Insufficient volume 
  • Plasma removed

PFA Collagen / Epinephrine = 75 - 184

PFA Collagen / ADP = 44 - 142

Critical Value

None 

Test Includes

If results of the PFA Coll-Epi are greater than the reference range, we will test the sample using the test cartridge PFA Coll-ADP. 

Methodology

The PFA-100 is an instrument and test cartridge system in which the process of platelet adhesion and aggregation following a vascular injury is simulated in vitro.
