Container24 Hour Plastic urine container with no preservative. 
6N HCl preservative is acceptable.  
Obtain urine container from the laboratory.
Collection InstructionsInstruct the patient to void at 8 A.M. and discard the specimen. Then collect all urine including the final specimen voided at the end of the 24-hour collection period (i.e., 8 A.M. the next morning) Container must be labeled with patient name, date and time collection started and date and time collection finished. Refrigerate during the collection. Screw lid on securely.

Additional InformationMetanephrine and normetanephrine are metabolic products of epinephrine and norepinephrine, the adrenal medullary hormones.
Patient PreparationNo caffeine before or during the collection. Monoamine oxidase inhibitors should be discontinued at least one week prior to beginning collection.
Specimen Processing InstructionsMix urine well. Measure and aliquot the 24-hour urine. Write the total 24-hour volume on the aliquot container.
