Submit stool specimen or swab with fecal material. 
Hemoccult slide with thin layer of stool applied to test areas.

Protect Hemoccult slide from heat and light.

Patient Preparation

Avoid collections during menstrual period (females). 
Restrictive Diet 48 hrs prior to collection. Foods to avoid: red meat, raw fruits and vegetables, Vitamin C in excess of 250mg/day, iron supplements, aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Specimen Processing Instructions

Suggested collection is (3) consecutive bowel movements

Transport Requirements

Hemoccult slide stored up to 14 days room temperature. 
Stool specimens deliver to lab as soon as possible. Store 4-8 deg C

Specimen Stability

Rejection Criteria

Incorrect patient information. 
Hemoccult Slides without visible evidence of fecal matter will be rejected as QNS for testing.
