Patient Preparation
|
Avoid collections during menstrual period (females).
Restrictive Diet 48 hrs prior to collection. Foods to avoid: red meat, raw fruits and vegetables, Vitamin C in excess of 250mg/day, iron supplements, aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Suggested collection is (3) consecutive bowel movements

Transport Requirements
|
Hemoccult slide stored up to 14 days room temperature.
Stool specimens deliver to lab as soon as possible. Store 4-8 deg C

|
Hemoccult Slide stable for up to 14 days. |
Rejection Criteria
|
Incorrect patient information.
Hemoccult Slides without visible evidence of fecal matter will be rejected as QNS for testing.
