Biography
Dr. Birchenough is a board-certified plastic surgeon (American Board of Plastic Surgery) specializing in breast surgery and cosmetic surgery. He received his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine. His six-year plastic surgery residency, covering the complete spectrum of plastic surgery training, was obtained from the University of Virginia Health System. He spent an additional fellowship year in Nashville, TN, working with renowned plastic surgeons including Dr. G. Patrick Maxwell. Here, he improved and refined his techniques in cosmetic surgery with an emphasis on breast surgery, cosmetic surgery of the face and body and innovative breast reconstruction methods. Dr. Birchenough is the current Chief of the Plastic Surgery Division of Spartanburg Regional Hospital, as well as the current President of the South Carolina Society of plastic surgeons. He also leads the Plastic Surgery Club of the Upstate, bringing together plastic surgeons from this area for discussions on the latest innovations. He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, in addition to other local, national and international organizations. With a strong interest in staying up to date with the latest procedures, Dr. Birchenough offers his patients the latest breast implants (including the newest gummy bear anatomic implants) surgical procedures and technology. His personal philosophy includes spending adequate time helping to educate patients during the consultation process and ensuring patients have the knowledge and confidence to make informed personal choices for their plastic surgery care.
