Collection Instructions
Physician collects specimen per specimen collection procedures (SOP.CYTO.013, SOP.CYTO.10). Cytology requisition must accompany the specimen or information properly entered into COPIA with a specimen label printed and placed on all specimen containers. (SOP.CYTO.028)

Transport Requirements
Ensure container lids are properly secured to prevent leakage of specimen and/or breakage of smeared slides. Keep specimen refrigerated if not immediately transported to laboratory.

Up to 3 weeks in CytoLyt
Rejection Criteria
No specimen in container, specimen received without requisition or requisition without specimen, no name or other identifying information on container or slide, name on requisition does not match names on specimens, broken slides unrepairable, site not identified, specimen received without proper fixative or stored improperly, specimen not received from an authorized source, insufficient specimen amount, not in compliance with standard precautions, second rejection for unsigned verification, ThinPrep vials received beyond expiration date. Please refer to SOP.CYTO.044.
