Specimen Type
Bone marrow aspirate and/or core.
Container
The bone marrow core will be placed in B+ Fixative. If there is a clot specimen, it will be placed in a separate container with 10% formalin Fixative.
Collection Instructions
All bone marrows must be scheduled in advance with Histology by calling 560-6450. A technologist will go to the floor to assist the physician with the bone marrow. Clot and core will be brought to the Histology Lab by the tech.
Additional Information
All specimens must be accompanied with a requisition form.
Specimen Processing Instructions
Deliver the bone marrow to Histology M-F 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. After 3 p.m., weekends and holidays deliver to Receiving and Processing.

Test Includes
Gross description, routine overnight processing, routine stains, and special stains.
