Partnering to grow our trail system and improve health
The Daniel Morgan Trail System is one of the region’s most-used recreational assets, promoting health and wellness in communities throughout Spartanburg.
Spartanburg Regional is one of the leading sponsors of this transformative project, which is linking neighborhoods and boosting economic development. The healthcare system’s investment is one of many strategic partnerships focused on improving community health.
In collaboration with Spartanburg County Parks, the City of Spartanburg, and many partners, PAL (Play. Advocate. Live Well.) is bringing this 55-mile trail network to life – a physical connection that promotes tourism and community development.
According to PAL, every $1 million invested in the Daniel Morgan Trail System generates $1.52 million in economic impact and activity for the community.

Partnering with S.C. Charities to bring golf, visitors to the Upstate
Spartanburg Regional partners with South Carolina Charities to hold the BMW Charity Pro-Am golf tournament each year. Drawing more than 50,000 spectators each year, the tournament showcases the Upstate with play at courses in Greer and Spartanburg.
Since 2001, the tournament has awarded more than $16 million to numerous charities. In addition to sponsorship, Spartanburg Regional is the medical provider for the tournament, providing on-site physicians, emergency services and athletic training staff.

AccessHealth connecting patients to care
More than 16,000 low-income adults in Spartanburg, Cherokee, and Union counties have no insurance of any kind. AccessHealth connects this population to primary care, specialty care, and a host of social services and other assistance. A groundbreaking initiative focused on Spartanburg County when it started in 2010, AccessHealth has since expanded into Cherokee and Union counties.
More than 4,000 clients are enrolled in AccessHealth across its three-county service area at any given time. After a needs assessment, clients are connected to quality health care and other services that reduce health inequities and improve community health outcomes. Among the nearly 18,000 clients enrolled since the program’s inception, AccessHealth clients experienced a 13 percent reduction in emergency room visits and 54 percent reduction in avoidable inpatient admissions in the 12 months following enrollment.
