Program Overview
The Sports Medicine Institute Physical Therapy - Sports Residency is a 13 month, full-time, clinically-based training program designed to accelerate the professional development of physical therapists.
The mission is accomplished through a planned program of post-professional clinical and didactic education for physical therapists, designed to significantly advance a resident’s expertise in examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, intervention and management of patients in the area of sports physical therapy. The curriculum for the sports residency is based on the Description of Specialty Practice: Sports Physical Therapy.
Physical therapists with advanced clinical skills from the outpatient orthopaedic and sports areas of SRHS Rehabilitation serve as faculty mentors to guide residents in the development of advanced clinical expertise and current knowledge in the specialty of sports physical therapy. The program is also designed to prepare residents to sit for the ABPTS Sports Certified Specialist (SCS) examination. The resident is expected to successfully complete all assigned readings, projects, and written and practical examinations.
