Child Development Program
The Child Development Program is located in the Pinewood Resource Center on the Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System campus at the corner of Pine Street and McCravy Drive. The hours of operation are 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. The center serves children from age three (3) months to twelve (12) years of age. Care is provided year-round, Monday through Friday. Holiday and weekend care is available according to need. The Child Development Program is open during inclement weather.
In order to serve the healthcare system most effectively, these priorities for acceptance are followed:
PRIORITY I: Children of parents whose employment status is full time and their working hours cover more than one (1) shift or hours when other child care facilities are not typically providing service.
PRIORITY II: Children of parents who employment status is full time and already have a child enrolled in the program on a full time basis.
PRIORITY III: Children of parents whose employment status is full time on first shift.
PRIORITY IV: Children of parents whose employment status is part time or PRN and who desire center services on a full time basis. (This space may have to be forfeited if an employee whose status is full time is waiting. Thirty (30) days notice should be given.)
Part time enrollment is also available for children of hospital employees. This is handled on a week-by-week basis or as space is available.
When groups are filled to capacity, a waiting list is maintained. Please contact the center for additional information at 864-560-4160.

Employee Assistance
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is an employer-sponsored program that provides free, confidential, professional assistance to help associates and their families resolve problems that affect their personal lives or their ability to perform their jobs.
EAP services include counseling for a wide-range of problems such as: marital problems, family discord, alcohol/drug abuse, grief, depression, stress management, parenting difficulties and financial worry.
Employee Health Assessments
All employees must have a pre-placement Health Assessment following the job offer and prior to beginning Orientation. The assessment consists of a health history, observed drug screening and routine tests to ensure that you are physically able to do your job.
There is no cost to you for this evaluation. You may be requested to have other examinations at any time during your employment if the tests are for your protection and the protection of others.
Employee Illness
Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System provides evaluation and first aid through Employee Occupational Health Services for employees who become ill while at work. An employee who becomes ill on the job should first see their supervisor for permission to leave the work area to seek first aid. Occupational Health will evaluate the illness and make a recommendation to send the employee home or back to work.
There may be times when the nurse who examines the employee may advise a visit to a physician. The services of a physician are not included in Employee Occupational Health Services and the employee is responsible for their choice of physician and professional charges.
Employees may be restricted from duty due to certain illnesses, exposure to certain communicable diseases, or injuries as determined by Employee Occupational Health Services.
Family Medical Leave
The Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) of 1993 provides up to 12 weeks of job protected leave to eligible associates for certain family and medical reasons including:
- To care for the associate’s child after birth or placement for adoption or foster care
- To care for the associate’s spouse, partner, son, daughter or parent, who has a serious health condition
- For a serious health condition that makes the associate unable to perform their job.
Flexible Spending Accounts
Spartanburg Regional offers you the opportunity to take advantage of tax savings available from two flexible spending accounts. You can deposit pre-tax dollars in your Health Care Spending Account and/or Dependent Care Spending Account.
Health Care Spending Account
You can deposit up to $2,850 a year through pre-tax payroll deductions in your Health Care Spending Account. You can use the tax-free money in your account to reimburse yourself for:
- Eligible expenses not paid by your medical and dental coverage, and
- Out-of-pocket expenses, such as deductibles and copays.
Dependent Care Spending Account
You can deposit up to $5,000 (or $2,500 if you and your spouse file separate income tax returns) a year through pre-tax payroll deductions in your Dependent Care Spending Account. This account lets you set aside pre-tax money to pay dependent care expenses that are necessary in order for you to work or attend school full-time.
Jury Duty
Associates are encouraged to serve on juries when possible. Spartanburg Regional offers compensation in addition to the jury duty hours served.
Leaves of Absence
The following types of leaves may be available to Spartanburg Regional employees:

Accidental Death and Dismemberment
You have the option of purchasing accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance. AD&D protection pays the full benefit amount if you die as a result of an accident, and will pay a portion of the benefit if you suffer a serious accident resulting in dismemberment, depending on the nature of your injury.
Dependent Life Coverage
Spartanburg Regional also offers you the opportunity to purchase dependent life coverage. Dependent life insurance pays a lump-sum benefit to you if your spouse or a dependent child dies. You may also purchase AD&D coverage on your spouse.
Medical Insurance Plans
Healthy Choice Plan
The Healthy Choice plan is a preferred provider organization (PPO) health plan with a network made up of physicians, hospitals and other healthcare providers who have agreed to provide their services to our associates at reduced rates.
Value Plan
The Value plan is a high deductible health plan (HDHP) in which all medical and prescription expenses are subject to the deductible. Associates may open a Health Savings Account (HSA) in conjunction with the Value plan where pre-tax dollars may be set aside for IRS-approved health expenses.
Both medical plans require services within Spartanburg County to be provided by a Regional Health Plus provider – our preferred network. Preventive care, such as routine physicals, is covered at no charge to you as long as you seek services within our network of providers. You have the freedom to choose any physician or hospital whenever you seek medical treatment. However, if you choose one of our preferred providers, you will receive a higher level of benefits.
Paid Time Off
Spartanburg Regional offers all benefits-eligible associates paid time off (PTO) for rest and relaxation.
PTO hours may be used at the employee’s discretion for time away from work as requested and approved by the supervisor. PTO may be used for vacation time, holidays, personal time, personal or family illness/emergency or bereavement leave for a death in the immediate family.
Holidays
Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System recognizes six (6) designated paid holidays:
- New Year’s Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
Parking
The healthcare system provides free parking for employees. Security officers are on duty 24 hours a day at the Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System and Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care campuses to escort employees to their cars, if necessary, or help employees start their cars.
Please park only in areas designated for employee parking. Parking regulations are strictly enforced, and security officers are authorized to issue tickets, which must be paid to avoid arrest. Improperly parked cars may be towed away at the owner’s expense.
Employees are not allowed to park in patient or visitor parking areas.
Prescription Drug Coverage
When you elect medical coverage, you are automatically covered under the prescription drug plan based on your medical plan election. The coverage allows you to fill your prescriptions at participating pharmacies or our own retail or mail-order pharmacy.
Discounted rates are offered to all associates and the amount you pay is based on what type of drug you choose. You have the opportunity to lower the amount you pay by choosing a generic or a preferred brand name drug.
Mail Order Program
When you use the mail-order program, a 90-day supply of your medication will be delivered directly to your home. This gives you access to larger quantities of maintenance drugs at a discount. Again, the amount depends on the medical plan and the type of drug that you choose.
Retirement
Associates may participate in the healthcare system’s deferred compensation programs: 401(k) program and a 457(b) program. Both plans allow associates to save for retirement through pre-tax payroll deductions. The 401(k) program offers company matching contributions to eligible associates.
Some associates may choose and others are required to participate in the South Carolina Retirement System (SCRS). Associates who join the retirement system contribute a portion of their total income to the State through pre-tax payroll deductions. To become vested, you must be a contributing member of the Retirement System for eight years. Membership or non-membership in the SCRS is irrevocable.
