Union Medical Center is an acute care medical facility centralizes physician practices, outpatient services, and emergency care, improving efficiency and enhancing the patient experience. Now located on Highway 176, across from Union Industrial Park, the UMC campus includes a healing garden, outdoor walking trail, history museum and chapel for the community to use and enjoy.
As part of Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, Union Medical Center offers access to coordinated medical services, a multi-specialty physician group, and the most advanced technologies available, ensuring patients receive the highest standard of care.
With roots dating back to 1921 as Wallace Thomson Hospital, Union Medical Center has been a trusted part of the Union County community for over a century. That legacy continues today with a commitment to innovation and excellence in health care.
New facility officially opens
In February 2025, Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System opened the doors of its new $55 million Union Medical Center replacement facility. The three-story, 99,600-square-foot hospital facility increases patient access, enhances services and clinical capabilities and provides a better overall patient experience to residents of Union County.
This replacement facility centralizes physician practices, outpatient services and inpatient care, and creates a sustainable model for health care in Union County. With its strategic location and expanded capabilities, the new Union Medical Center simplifies and modernizes healthcare delivery in Union County for generations to come.

Transportation: Need a Ride?
Union County has partnered with local services to enhance the quality of life for residents through the use of safe and efficient public transportation.
- Reservations for The Chester Connector require a 48-hour notice and must be within a five-mile radius of the Union County Courthouse with additional options for residents of Carlisle, Jonesville and Lockhart.
- Service hours: 6 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday – Friday
- Passenger Fares: $1 per trip or $2 round trip per passenger, collected when boarding the vehicle
