About
Arthritis is one of the most common conditions of the bones and joints. Whether it is caused by wear and tear (osteoarthritis) or inflammation (rheumatoid arthritis), the specialists at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System offer a range of therapies. Our treatment team includes orthopaedists, pain management specialists and rheumatologists. Together, we work with you to help reduce symptoms and improve your level of activity.
Care Without Surgery
The most common conditions and symptoms of arthritis are back pain, gout, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. If you have these or similar conditions, your team will first identify the underlying cause. Physical therapy, not surgery, is usually the next step. To reduce stiffness, pain and fatigue, for example, many of our patients have success with rest, heat and cold treatments, exercise, splints or medication.
Surgical Expertise
If these nonsurgical therapies do not give you the relief or level of activity you expect, our team also offers expertise in advanced surgery techniques. Common types of joint surgery that we offer include:
- Arthroscopy to diagnose and repair a joint
- Removal of the joint lining (synovectomy)
- Realignment or removal of bone from the joint (osteotomy)
- Joint fusion (arthrodesis) to stabilize the joint
- Joint replacement
