About
Your cancer survivorship begins at the time of diagnosis. Upon completion of treatment, the Gibbs Cancer Center Survivorship Program is here to provide support and education as you begin life after cancer. Some people find that this transition can come with new challenges, as cancer can have a lasting impact such as ongoing side effects of treatment, fear of cancer coming back and other physical, emotional, financial and social concerns. Our goal is to ensure your survivorship needs are recognized and you get the care you need through our cancer survivorship programs.
What is Survivorship Clinic?
The Survivorship Clinic at Gibbs Cancer Center is here to help you move forward with your life while carefully monitoring the effects of your treatment and cancer. We work as a bridge between the oncology and primary care providers to create the best plan for your overall health. The survivorship team is here to discuss your concerns and help you build a team supporting your health and overall wellness needs. Our providers are uniquely knowledgeable about the issues you may face after treatment. At your survivorship appointment, we will focus on:
- Education of long-term and potential side effects of treatment
- Coordination of follow-up care, including physician appointments and screenings
- Prevention and health improvement strategies through physical activity and nutrition
- Discussion of risks for other chronic diseases
- Referrals to professionals and programs that meet your specific needs
