Medical Education

The Department of Medical Education at Spartanburg Regional sponsors three residency training programs:

1. Family Medicine
2. General Surgery
3. Transitional Year Program

The department employees more than 30 full-time faculty dedicated to the education of residents. Training for residents is provided through a number of provider-based practices staffed by the full-time faculty, which include:

• Family Medicine
• Surgery
• OB/GYN
• Pediatrics
• Internal Medicine
• Maternal Fetal Medicine
• Family Neurology.

The department also provides additional training with physicians of multiple specialties located in the surrounding community.

Spartanburg Regional also offers Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), a training program for clergy persons of all religions and faith groups. The focus of this experiential method of theological education is the learning of the art of pastoral care. The clerics enrolled in this program minister to patients and their family members, providing spiritual care under the supervision of a certified CPE supervisor with the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc. an internationally recognized organization dedicated to theological training.
